Il-Marsa / Marsa
The Great Siege of Malta took place in 1565, when the Ottoman Empire tried to invade the island of Malta, then held by the Knight Hospitaller. During the Great Siege of Malta of 1565, Marsa was used as a camp by troops of the Ottoman Empire. The Knights withstood the siege and repelled the invaders. Following their defeat, Marsa became a barony containing a number of vineyards.
